Following the success of the Wimbleball 70.3 Ironman last June and the overwhelming generosity of fundraising, I have decided to take on my biggest challenge yet and face Ironman Wales (Tenby) on September 8th 2013.
Renowned as the toughest Ironman courses in the world, this grueling triathlon consists of a 2.4 mile coastal swim, 112 mile bike ride and a full marathon. To make things even more tricky, there is a 1km run, which includes a steep incline up the sea wall to the bike transition tent after completing the swim, as well as a steep incline out of Tenby to commence the hilly 2000m cycle climb! My training is going very well, however it is proving to be a huge commitment and lifestyle change requiring a massive amount of self- discipline and motivation. Alongside training i am competing in fell races, road races and triathlons, which also included last year’s main event, the Wimbleball 70.3 Ironman in June. For the first year, I am raising money for a charity called PACT, as well as my local Matlock Mencap society where i have volunteered for over 10 years. PACT (Parents’ Association of children with tumours and leukemia) is a charity offering help and support to children throughout their treatment. Any funds raised will go towards the provision of equipment, new ideas and facilities for families. Please donate to PACT at http://www.justgiving.com/Ben-Cartwright3. Please donate to Matlock Mencap at http://www.justgiving.com/Ben-Cartwright4. Your support is greatly appreciated and i will update you on hopefully a successful race !
