The Jubilee bank holiday was round 5 and 6 of the Ferrari Classic and Open series with each having a race on the Monday and one on the Tuesday. We managed to avoid the rain clouds in the classic and enjoyed 2 great races with almost 20 cars on the grid.
Mondays qualifying saw Tomlin quickest in his awesome 308 fibreglass car with Jamie C 2nd, Marrs 3rd, Jenkins 4th, Ben C 5th, Butler 6th and Nick C 7th.
A late race slot at 6 PM and it was Tomlin that led from Jamie into paddock hill bend. Ben C went for a gap up the inside but was hit on the nearside wheel by Marrs which ripped the tyre valve out and left Ben to limp back to pits with a puncture. Meanwhile Jim and Tomlin were battling for the lead. Jenkins and Marrs were having their own battle over 3rd with Tim Walker, Butler and Nick C fighting for 5th. After a safety car incident which bunched the pack together Jamie was caught napping when the race got underway and Tomlin crossed the line with a 3 second advantage. Jim soon closed the gap but was unable to pass Tomlins super quick Gulf liveried car. Tomlin took the win from Jim C with Nigel Jenkins 3rd only a split second behind. Wayne Marrs finished 4th with Butler, Walker and Nick C crossing the line respectively with only a second between them.
After an early qualifying slot on the Sunday morning it was Tomlin once again on pole with Jim second, Ben Cartwright 3rd, followed by Jenkins and Marrs. As the race got underway it was Jamie C and Ben C who arrived 1st and 2nd into paddock Hill bend. Tomlin made a poor start and leaving Marrs, Butler and Jenkins fighting over 3rd. Tomlin soon made his way through the pack and was Challenging Jenkins until a spin put him out of contention. Meanwhile Jamie had pulled a few seconds lead from Ben who now had Jenkins in his mirrors. Jenkins made the pass into paddock hill and Ben was unable to challenge the GP 4 car for the position back. Nick C had a ruff time being taken out of the race twice and ended up 10th with a slightly bruised looking car. Jim took the win with an impressive margin with Jenkins second and Ben C 3rd and 1 st in class 3.
